The good folks at Sucker Punch who brought us such hits as...um...Rocket: Robot on Wheels...bring their A game to the table is this spectacular platformer for the Playstation 2.
Sly was just a boy when his father was taken out by a group of thugs known as the Fiendish Five. The evil band of thieves then stole his family's precious book The Thievius Raccoonus, in which his ancestors chronicled their thieving exploits. Now much older and wiser, Sly Cooper, with the help of his friends Bentley and Murray, is on a quest to defeat the Fiendish Five and reclaim his birthright.
Fans of platformers, this is the best the Playstation 2 has to offer, and almost the best any system does. You'll run, you'll jump, you'll pummel enemies. Along the way you'll recover pages of the Thievius Raccoonus and gain new skills that will take your platforming to a whole new level. As a thief, though, you'll occasionally find yourself sneaking around, then jetting like...well, a raccoon...out of whatever stronghold you're in.
There's plenty to do after the game is beaten. There are a wide variety of moves you'll be able to learn after the game is over, further enriching your experience. Want to test your skill? Use your new moves to jet through each level with a certain time limit. There's plenty to keep you busy.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is a spectacular platforming game, one than any fan should check out. It's just a shame the sequels couldn't convey the same sense of platforming goodness, but we'll get into that later on.
