I'm not a coffee drinker but I wanted to have a warm drink during the cold winter months. Hot chocolate is too rich to have all the time (plus the calories!). I decided that hot tea would be great to try for the warmth and the health benefits. I needed a brewer that was pretty much idiot proof. SBS Teas was a website I had read a lot about and had heard they had wonderful loose teas. So I went there shopping for a little teapot. I found several but the Smart Tea Maker looked to be the simplest. You add loose tea to the pot, then add boiling water, close the attached lid and let steep. You steep based on the tea instructions or to your own preference. After steeping, you place the pot onto the top of your own mug. Press the pot down. The tea flows through the built in "filter" catching the tealeaves in the pot. Presto! Hot tea without a mess. Clean up is very simple. Dispose of the loose tea and rinse the pot in warm water. Let dry. There is also a little plastic coaster the you can sit your teapot on.

You could also use this for iced tea by draining over a mug of ice, but I have not yet tried that option.

There are a couple of cons of this teapot for me. It's made of plastic, so I'm not sure exactly how long it will last. Plus, I'm not sure it could be washed in the dishwasher without melting or warping. There is also a potential for soap residue to taint the taste of your tea if you do wash with soap. I could not find a warranty for the teapot other than returning to SBS Teas if the package arrives damaged.

All in all though, this little teapot is a nice simple "applicance" for making a single serving of hot tea.
