The book "Soul Harvest" has a description on the front cover: "The World Takes Sides." How's that for a dramatic lead-in? This book is actually the fourth installment of the popular "Left Behind" series, written by the Christian authors Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins.
The plot of this book is readable as a stand-alone book, but in my opinion it is much better if read as a series, because there is pertinant background information that is presented as the story moves along. Also, I found myself getting attached to the characters of the book, and it is intriguing to follow them along in their adventures.
The previous book in the series, "Nicolae, " told of the rise of the anti-Christ, and this book follows in the reign of the same character, Nicolae Carpathia. What a fascinating, albeit evil, character. I actually enjoyed this book even more than the last book, because while it still contained political tones, there is a lot more adventure going on here, and it takes place literally all over the world. Since this series is based on Revelations from the Bible, this book takes place in the second year of the Tribulation, and the world is now moving towards the Trumpet Judgements that have been prophesied. All of the familiar characters are present here, with plenty of action abounding!
I like the transformation of the characters thus far- from being lost and having no faith in the first book to being steadfast and living for God in this book- it is rather motivational. This series has obvious Christian ties, but the bottom line is that it is well-written and enjoyable for anyone, no matter what their beliefs may be.
