I love to cook and a years back, my cookbook shelves were in danger of falling. It seemed I had a cookbook on every subject, yet only used a few. So I weeded them out, gave many to friends or thrift shops and only saved the ones I use reguarly. The Southern Living Cookbook is one of those.
It's my go-to cookbook when I just need a little help with one of those recipes I grew up with. From scrach layer cakes to dinner on the grounds casseroles, this cookbook has it all. Just leafing through it reminds me of long ago meals with my family.
Even beginning cooks will find plenty of recipes to try. Each chapter begins with some easy, basic recipes. For the gourmet, there are plenty of involved recipes as well. All 1300 of them were tested in the Southern Living kitchen. It's also packed with gorgeous color photos.
If I had to only keep one cookbook, this would be it! Now I'm off to make a Cola Cake -- page 113 -- just like the one my mother used to bake.
