My latest purchase for our medicine cabinet is the Vicks SpeedRead with Fever InSight thermometer.
It has been quite some time since I have needed a thermometer--not since my siblings were little--but recently my husband had surgury and I knew I would need to keep a close eye on him as he recoverd. This Vicks thermometer did the trick perfectly, and at a great price.
This thermometer lives up to its name by providing an accurate temperature in 10 seconds or less. It also has auto shut off, so that the battery is not accidentally wasted, a storage case to keep it safe and clean, and can display the temperature in either farenhight or celcius with the push of a button. The Fever InSight feature is also a nice touch. The temperature display area changes colour based on the severity of the fever. Green means a heathy temperature range; orange indicates a slight, but not a serious fever; and red indicates a high fever. This is a handy guide for adults, and makes temperature-taking a little more "fun" for kids.
I am quite happy with this thermometer, and would definitely recommend it. It's perfect for adults, and would be just fine for families with children around age 4 and older. As long as a child can know not to bite it, and to "just count to ten", it will get the job done easily and affordably.
