I am a new GEICO customer and although I have little time having a policy with them I have been happy so far.
I picked GEICO after an extensive search for a new auto insurance policy, but the two factors that wrapped me in were that I could get a discount thanks to the professional organization I am a part of and the fact they have 24/7 service.
I also appreciated the fact that Roadside Assistance coverage is just a dollar a month, a really nice feature that seems cheaper than most of their competitors.
Let me speak to GEICO's ability to contact them 24/7, which was a boon to me. I have called twice during peak hours (8 p.m. when everyone calls) and I got a customer service agent with immediacy. That was great because I don't like waiting on the telephone. My old insurance agent was regularly closed during the times I was available and had no weekend hours (although this is specific to the agent's office I had, not State Farm in general).
GEICO's speediness also was reflected in their new policy department - I got a nice guy to talk to within five minutes of calling to set up my policy. They must have a well-staffed call center.
Within thirty minutes I had a new insurance policy and an insurance card printed out (they send you one via a PDF file through email and also follow up with a hard card in the mail).
GEICO didn't get my business because of their cheesy commercials or any of that. GEICO got me because of the price and their service. I also appreciated that they have a local office in my city if I need to go talk to someone in person.
Let's hope that the service is just as good in case anything rotten happens.
