I am very interested in alternative medicine. I also happen to work in the healthcare field. I would advise anyone to talk to their doctor before taking any kind of new medicine. I tried St. John's Wort at the recommendation of my mother-in-law. This is cheap I bought a bottle for $3.68+tax of 100 capsules at Wal-Mart. The bottle says it is suppose to "help promote a positive mood". In a weird way I think it does, very slightly. It seems to have a calming effect on me. The directions say to take 2 capsules, 3 times a day. Personally I never take more than 2 a day. I am skeptical about any vitamin or supplement because they are broken down and altered, so how much really gets digested and how much is useless byproduct? I guess I would recommend trying this before taking an actual antidepressant or anxiety medication only if you have slight depression. If you have major depression it would be best to see a doctor.
WARNING: St. John's Wort does interact with a lot of medications. If you are on birth control (and do not want a child) - DO NOT take this. ALWAYS consult your doctor before taking this, especially if you are on other medications.
Ingredients: St. John's Wort Extract, maltodextrin, gelatin, magnesium silicate, vegetable magnesium stearate, silica.
Interesting facts I found on the internet- St. John's worst used to be thought to rid the body of evil spirits. It has a history of medicinal uses dating all the way back to ancient Greece.
