Let me start this out with a small confession. I can't start my day without a cup of coffee, at least, not if I want to get through it in one piece. With that in mind, I recently moved into my own apartment and number one item on my shopping list was a coffee maker.
Given that I was working within the confines of a pretty tight budget, I tore myself away from the stainless steel pots with timers and alrm clocks and such and, a trail of drool in my path, headed down the line to the more affordable caffeine delivery units.
I finally settled on a Sunbeam 12 cup coffee maker, with no extra bells and whistles, for $19.99. In the past 3 months I have used this baby on a daily basis and it has held up well. It does what you expect it to do, makes coffee, hot and fairly quickly, so no complaints there.
2 major checkmarks against this model are the lack of an automatic shutoff (I tend to be a bit scatterbrained and always leave the pot on), and the seeming inability of the pot to pour out the coffee without copious amounts spilling down the front, resulting in me having to pour into my cup while standing over the sink, weeping as a 1/3 of a pot of my delicious java spills down the drain.
Other than that, it is fine for the price and a decent little coffee maker for those on a budget.
