As you all know babies have cute fat feet. Unfortunately my babies have cute but extra fat feet. As a result of this, I had a hard time finding any shoes that would fit.

I took my son, then age 1, to Stride Rite. They measured his feet and confirmed that he was indeed a wide. Unlike most stores, Stride Rite had a large variety of shoes available in wide sizes. I found an extremely cute pair of shoes that were perfect for my son who wasn't walking yet.

Studies have now shown that it is best to keep babies barefoot when learning to walk. When you are out, it is recommended that they were flexible shoes that are easily bendable in the sole. Stride Rite has a line of shoes called pre-walkers. This shoe is extremely flexible but still very sturdy and durable for adventures out.

Stride Rite shoes are not cheap. The Soft Motion Eaglet pair I purchased was $42.00. I would guess that their shoes average around $40. This is quite a bit of money to spend on shoes - especially when they only wear the shoes for a few months before needing new ones. Fortunately every once in a while Stride Rite has a "Buy One Get One Half Off" sale. I just call or stop by the store to see when the next sale is going on. I then try to buy him a shoe in his current size and a size ahead.

I highly recommend Stride Rite Soft Motion Eaglet shoes for your new or pre-walker. They are cute, durable, and flexible.
