For the past 5 years my daily driver has been a Subaru Impreza WRX sedan, and I could not be happier. This car is an ideal combination of utility and performance, which works just as well as a daily driver to and from the grocery store, as it does on the open highway. If you ever want to have just a little more fun, all you need to do is press slightly harder on the gas pedal. The acceleration and cornering abilities of this car are nothing short of amazing, especially for the price.
As of this writing, I have more than 80, 000 miles on my car, and it's still just as enjoyable to drive as it was when I first bought it. It's all-wheel-drive has seen me safely through hundreds of daily commutes to and from work, through several trips across state lines, and through some pretty nasty weather as the seasons changed. Throughout all of that, it's been very reliable and fairly economical averaging approximately 20 - 25 miles per gallon over it's lifetime. For the amount of performance that this car offers, this is pretty remarkable.
Along with any car, though, comes car maintenance and my car is no different. However, with the exception of a minor accident (my fault) the only maintenance costs that I've ever had to endure were for normal wear and tear items, such as tires, brakes, and a battery. Two of those items could have lasted longer, were it not for my "spirited" driving on a fairly regular basis.
If I were forced to find some negatives with this car, they would be the fact that the rear seat does not fold down (this may have changed with newer models), and the styling. I literally laughed when I first saw the car because I thought it looked so odd. This has also been resolved in later years, though.
Even though my car is five years old, I plan on driving it for several more years to come. When the time comes for me to look for a replacement, I will certainly consider purchasing another Subaru Impreza WRX. It's just that good.
