My little one is getting to that very mobile, very curious, very "I want to touch everything" stage. With winter and Christmas right around the corner, we knew we needed to do something to make our gas stove and Christmas tree safe. My mother-in-law bough this surround playard for us in hopes that it would work as a sturdy barrier.
This playard was already put together and ready to use straight out of the box. One feature I love it that it is meant to stay together and fold like an accordion for easy storage and transport. It comes with a strap that keeps it folded so you can easily carry it around. It is very lightweight, but also very thick, sturdy plastic. I set it up in a zigzag line and let my little girl push on it and it didn't move. I was worried that it was going to be easy for her to knock over even if it were closed in a hexagon-shaped playard, but there's no way that could happen. It is 30" tall, so it is over her head and she can't try to climb over it.
The best thing about this playard is that we aren't even using it as a playard. It comes with 6 panels attached with a screwing adjuster at each panel. I took 2 panels off and used them to block off our fireplace, then I will use the rest of it to block off the Christmas tree when we get one up. The panels were a little hard to get apart, but that is a good factor so that kids can't take them apart and get through.
