All my life every summer I was out by the pool, beach, or a Lake working on a tan, mind you I was born very white and had very light hair and eyes the only one in a very dark skinned Greek family. I would be so burnt I would have blisters every year, all over. My mother would have me take the hottest shower I could take this was to help take the heat from the sun out. Even though you come out of the sun you are still tanning or burning, it is kind of, like when you put meat in the oven when you take it out it still cooks for the first 5 to 10 minutes.
After a very hot shower, she would cover all my burned areas with aloe Vera, and then she would take and rub my skin with vitamin E or use a Vitamin E cream. Most people would use Noxzema because the commercial said it would cool the skin. Instead, it only trapped the heat in.
Today we cover up and use SPF 15 or higher, I use the Aloe Vera with vitamin E combined after my shower, safer, with less peeling
