While cruising the back caps of Target checking out the clearance 2 years ago we came across the MT. TIKI-SOKI water volcano on clearance for $2.50. He was just too cute to pass up so we took him home. I think part of our attraction to him is because we are Disney villain fans and he looks a lot like the character Hades from the Disney movie Hercules.
Mt. Tiki-Soki screws on to your standard garden hose and sprays a stream of water for kids to run through and play in. Every few minutes he wakes up and his volcano explodes sending a huge burst of water high in the air. The first few times I heard him blow, the sound was so loud it startled me but it really does shoot water high up in the air and the sound is a great addition to the effect. A word of caution here, if you are standing directly over him when he blows, the force of the water does sting a bit. Make sure your kids do not put their faces over his spout when he is about to blow as they may get hurt.
We only got the chance to play with him twice last year. Our state was in a drought situation for most of the summer and as a result our water restrictions went from limited usage to no outdoor water usage at all. The 2 times we did get to use him my son and his friends who were all between the ages of 2-6, did spend over 30 minutes each time playing with him. For kids of that age 30 minutes is a long time to keep their interest so I was pleased. The kids did catch on quickly to knowing when he was getting ready to blow but that just gave them to opportunity to see who could get the closest to him before they chickened out.
I hope this year we will be able to resume our outdoor water usage and bring Mt. Tiki-Soki back out of storage. If the kids are too old now to enjoy him, I will use him to water the grass, he is that cute.
