Albuterol inhalation is for patients 4 years of age and older for the prevention and relief of bronchospasm with reversible obstruction airway disease, and for the prevention exercise induced brochospasm in patients 4 years of age and older. Albuterol inhalation can be used with or without steroid therapy. I have been prescribed this medication by my PCP (primary care physician) because of experiencing shortness of breath due to my smoking. It was prescribed as a PRN (use as needed). I have cut down my cigarette smoking, and as a result, I am not using this inhaler as much as I did. I am not ready to cut out the nicotine as of yet (I know, shame on me:( ). Moving on!
Contents: each canister contains a microcrystalline suspension of albuterol in propellants (trichloromonofluoromethane and dichlorodimonofluromethane) with oleic acid. Each actuation delivers 100mcg of albuterol from the valve and 90mcg of albuterol from the mouthpiece. Adverse Reaction: Central Nervous System; headache, nervousness, lightheadedness, tremor, agitation, nightmares, hyperactivity, and aggressive behavior. Gastrointestinal: nausea and/or vomiting, stomachache, diarrhea. Oropharngeal: throat irritation and discoloration of teeth. Respiratory: epistaxis and cough. Musculoskeletal: muscle cramp. As with any medication, if you experience any of these symptoms consult with your physician.
This inhaler is slightly difficult to use, because I can't quite get the correct dosage on the first try. I have to take the required puffs at least after three tries. However, once I administer this drug, I do feel the difference in my breathing and I find that I am able to breath much better. While on vacation in Florida in the month of July, I did use the inhaler practically every day that we stayed (2 Weeks). The heat and humidity were the contributors to my needing the inhaler to aid in my breathing. It was not the tobacco:), because I did not smoke during the whole time I was in Florida. This medication is therapeutic to me and can be for others who experience difficulty with breathing due to acute episodes of brochospasm or prevention of asthmatic symptoms. Don't forget to use only as directed by your doctor.
