Summer just began and already retail stores all over town are putting the seasonal merchandise on clearance. Target already has theirs at 75% off. We bought a few items, mostly toys for the kids, but one of the others was the Whim, a mini light up fan.

The little fan was probably designed for kids but I will admit it does offer a pretty good breeze. Granted you have to hold it relatively close and the size (it stands 4.5 inches) only allows a limited coverage area but still for the price it was worth it. These were originally priced at $2.99 so we got them for only seventy-five cents. They come in various colors and the two little blades are made of a flexible plastic. This is good because we intend on giving them to the kids to use while camping or during the 4th of July celebration. Even if one tries to stop the blades with his fingers (I did) it doesn’t hurt, cut, or even scratch. The package says for ages four and up so perhaps real little ones shouldn’t be allowed to have them.

The cool part for the kids is that one of the blades lights up and creates a glowing circle as it spins. This beats buying those glow sticks that people sell for three or four dollars at the fair or park during the holiday festivities. Even better was the fact that it came with two double A batteries already installed. You will want to make sure you grab some that work though because there is an opening on the back of the package where people can try the light and you wouldn’t want to get home and find the batteries already used up. It is also very easy to operate, one little button on the side which you press to turn it on and off.

Overall these are nice little fans that should be fun for the kids. They are very light and even for an adult sitting at a ball game or something might come in handy. They are also pretty quiet considering what we payed. At the clearance price we couldn’t pass them up and even if they don’t last too long it was worth the seventy-five cents.
