Michael Douglas must be proud of this great movie that I think instantly was a classic drama. This movie ("The American President") stars him, Annette Bening, Martin Sheen, and Michael J Fox, and they did an amazing job. It is the story of an American president who decides he wants to date during his term in office. Though this means big outlash from the public who does not consider it appropriate, he pursues his love life (in a respectable manner) despite the public opinion and sometimes the advice of his staff.
I have to say this is one of my favorite movies. While I think it would be classified as a drama, it has just enough light comedy to make me smile and keep my interest. It is a classic love story, and I love that. I didn't expect to enjoy this movie as I figured it would be pretty boring, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have wachted it several times in the last 12 years and not once been bored. I'm also find of this movie because it is pretty clean. There is some mild language in it, but it's nothing like most movies and television shows of the time. I pull this movie out frequently for times when I get to spend the evening alone...I pop some popcorn and pile up on the couch and enjoy this movie every time I watch it.
