For me, this was the first The Apples in Stereo album that I have ever heard. I can not say that I'm an expert of theirs, but I do enjoy this album. I have listened to the entire thing around 4 times, and I can say that it is one of my top 25 albums of the year. It is an interesting album, as it's a mix of dance/pop/electronic music. I guess this is not unusual for this band, and it certainly isn't for me either.
While listening to this album, I was reminded of two other bands I enjoy, those being Of Montreal and Peter, Bjorn, and John. The sounds between these two bands aren't similar, which shows the range of songs that are in New Magnetic Wonder. The album is 24 songs, although many of them are short, filler songs that are there to make an album whole. The actual songs differ so much that this is why I was reminded of two completely different bands.
My favorite songs on the album are probably Sunndal Song and Joanie Don't U Worry. These both occur early in the album. The back half of the album moves very quickly, and while I wouldn't say it's forgettable, it certainly isn't as good as the first half. I think this is a wonderful album from the year 2007, and it is worth a listen to anybody who is interested in newer music or the genres The Apples in Stereo encompass.
