We have all seen horror movies. They're the movies that scare us when it's dark, whenever we're alone, or with a bunch of friends who just want a good scare! Saw has something that not many other horror movies have in it and that is intelligence. The premise of the film takes place when two men (Dr. Lawrence Gordon and Adam) awaken inside of an old, worn-down public bathroom. Between them is a dead body that has blown its brains out apparently from poisoning. They have no recollection of how they got there, but then they start to look around and find an envelope in each of their pockets with a tape, a key, and a bullet. They discover that they are the latest victims of a sadistic murderer called the Jigsaw Killer who cuts pieces of flesh away from his failed victims. But, truthfully, throughout the whole film, they continuously drive the point that this killer is not really a killer at all! He finds ways for his victims to kill themselves by setting them in horrible, deadly traps designed to test their will to survive.

Saw has some of my favorite actors portraying in it including Cary Elwes (Liar Liar, Twister), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, Angels In The Outfield) and Dina Meyer (Bats, Star Trek Nemesis). Each of these actors deliver an outstanding performance in this low-budget horror film.

This film is a fun-filled race through gore, captivity, and intellect that proves that this is the beginning of a long-standing franchise and the actual beginning of modern horror. Of course, with all films, there are some parts that just do not match up to others and in this film, things can get rather boring very fast. But, this is the type of movie that you really have to stick with and when the ending comes, you will be so grateful that you did! This movie critic has not seen a better twist ending in years and I was, for one, completely flabbergasted once this movie came to its climax point!

Saw will have you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire film with an ending so great, you are tasting the sequel! "Live or die. Make your choice."
