The Diary of a Young Girl is Anne Frank's account of her life in hiding in Nazi-occupied Amserdam in the 1940s.
The dvd The Diary of Anne Frank uses a screen play based on the play written about the contents of the diary. This is a good dvd, and the film was a 1959 Academy Award Winner, but the black and white film seems really old-fashioned to children of today.
However, the content of this dvd is so strong, that it does hold their interest, especially after reading the play in class. I would reccomend this film to go along with a study unit over Anne Frank, but the viewer should realize that Anne took liberties in her diary and the playwrights also took a few liberties, so while they are getting the gist of the story, the small details can't always be taken as fact. The film leaves out some of the helpers altogether, as does the screenplay.
I would suggest this movie to those that are interested in reading about Anne Frank, but I would also suggest other materials to supplement this film!
