We love Halloween and love to decorate our house each year to the max. We have done it for years, long before there was so much merchandise available for it in every store. One of the first big purchases we made was a fog machine. This was before store like Target and Walmart started to carry them. Back then it was more of an item bought by musicians and DJs and not for the average home Halloween effect.
We have had several machines over the years but the one we use every year and still works better than the rest is the Fog Hog Jr. II by American DJ. American DJ is a company that makes equipment people such as DJ's and bands would use like special effect lighting, cases, controllers and fog machines.
The Fog Hog Jr. II is a 700 watt mobile fog machine. It runs on electric and this model has a corded controller although a cordless one and a timer are available separately. It has a hanging bracket so if it was going to be used in a club or a similar place where is was going to be used all the time, you could mount to the ceiling or a wall instead of having it on the floor where someone could trip over it. This machine puts out 2, 500 cubic feet of fog per minute. Once you press the button and release the fog, it does take 1-2 minutes for the unit to reheat and put fog out again. A red light appears on the remote when the unit is ready to go again. We have used the machine both inside the house (we had to disconnect the smoke detectors when we have done that) and out in the yard. My only complaint is that it is a little on the loud side when it is dispensing the fog.
According to the box, this machine is perfect for mobile DJ's, clubs, bands and for Halloween. We have used it only for Halloween and it has served us well. We have 2 other machine that have not held up as well over the years and we decided when the time comes to purchase another machine, we will look for another one from American DJ.
Update On Feb 27, 2010: After several years of use this fog machine is still going strong. We plan to use it in a few weeks to give a fun look to the dance floor during my daughters sweet 16 party.
