My new house didn't come with a refrigerator or stove, so I set aside $1, 000 in my moving budget for new appliances and I took a shopping trip to Lowe's. I wanted a refrigerator that was black because white gets so dirty over time and stainless steel always shows the fingerprints. The refrigerator had to be an Energy Star appliance because I knew that would save me a lot of money in electricity costs over the twenty years or more that I planned to keep it. And I wanted a top-mounted freezer because I really don't care for side by sides or bottom-mounted freezers. Everything else was optional.
The Frigidaire 18.2 cubic foot Top Mount Refrigerator was the best value in refrigerators at only $549 that had everything I was looking for. This model came in black, and was Energy Star rated with an estimated yearly operating cost of $41. The top-mounted freezer is frost-free and it comes with a built in icemaker that I don't ever use, but this model is actually $110 more expensive without the icemaker than it is with it, so I kept the icemaker feature. One of the features that I love about this refrigerator is that the door shelves are adjustable and strong, and roomy enough that I can store a few gallons of milk in the door as well as a 12 pack of soda. The shelves are glass and very easy to keep clean. The freezer is a little smaller than I would have liked, mostly because the icemaker that I don't use is in the way, but the freezer comes with a coated wire shelf that I do like for organizing and finding my frozen foods easier.
I selected my installation date, and the delivery men from Lowe's came by around 10 that morning to install my new refrigerator and stove for me at no extra charge. I am very happy with that large appliance purchase and with the service and attention that I got from Lowe's.
