The Ghost and The Dead Deb is a mystery written by Alice Kimberly. It is one of the Haunted Bookshop Mysteries, another series I have started to read.
Penelope Thornton-McClure, (Pen), is a widow and owns a bookshop. Pen is having a well-known author, Angel Stark, appear at her shop. Angel will be reading a portion of her latest novel and signing some of her books. This true crime novel deals with the unsolved murder by strangulation of a debutante that was also an acquaintance of the author. Not everyone is happy to see Angel, though, and there is a confrontation between her and one of the attendees at the affair. Later, when Angel Stark turns up dead, there are a number of suspects who all had a motive to kill her. Pen elicits the help of her ghost-in-residence, Jack Shepard, to give her advice in solving the mystery. Jack was a PI back in the 1940s who was murdered at the location of Pen's bookshop. His ghost is now trapped within the walls of the building, and Pen can converse with him through her thoughts, which makes for a very interesting story.
Once I got used to the idea of ghost Jack residing within the bookshop's walls, I really enjoyed reading about his interactions with Pen and how he helps her with solving current crimes. I know that I will be following up on other Haunted Bookshop Mysteries. The book was enjoyable, and having a resident ghost definitely gave the storyline a twist.
