The Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA is one of the most spectacular places I've ever visited. I was on a road trip from Texas to California. I stopped at a travel information center in New Mexico. One of the attendants told me to stay in Gray Mountain on HWY 89 north of flaggstaff. It was awesome.
Gray mountain is a small place to say the least. I stayed in the Anasazi Inn, for $29.00. Nice, little motel in the middle of nowhere. No light pollution, so the stars at night were absolutely stunning. It was really nice to be away from it all. I'm so glad that I didn't stay in Flagstaff for the night.
I got up the next morning, hit the road and was at Desert View (the entrance to the South Rim in about 1 hour and 20 minutes). The views along the southern rim were spectacular. The view of the Colorado River from the tower at Desert View was indescribable.
For a $20 entry fee into the National Park, the trip was a steal. You hear about the canyon and see pictures, but nothing really does it justice. You must see it in person!!
