This book is a favorite for me. I will never forget the emotions it evoked while I was reading it. John Steinbeck is famously depressing, but he always manages to make his readers see themselves in his characters. This makes you root for them, and want to see how the story ends. You will get lost in the world of the "Okies" being forced to move from their homes and find work in a rapidly declining economy. The large family the story centers around are faced with so many challenges, yet continue to support and love one another in a way that is told beautifully and descriptively. The work is truly inspiring, making the reader grateful for the life they have, whatever it may be. As the trials and tribulations of this cast of characters unfold, you are glad for the length of the book, as it answers all your questions before sending you on your way.
