These are not your Disney Fairy Tales! I saw this book (Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales) listed in the catalog for The Science Fiction Book Club which I am a member of. I love the old classic books so I thought this would be a nice addition to my collection. This book has ALL of the Grimm Brother's stories that they collected. Yes, all 211 stories. A lot of the tales are very similar in telling but with very slight differences and most have very serious moral and good meanings within them.

These are not the fairy tales we all grew up with though. While reading these tales that I have heard so many times I found that I was not hearing the original tale as told by the Grimm Brother's. These original writings seem much different in many aspects to the versions we tell our children and that we heard as children. Take for example, The Frog Prince. We always heard of the princess who found the frog and kissed him and he turned into a handsome prince and they live happily ever after. Not the case in the original written tale. The princess finds a frog, makes a promise to take him back to palace for a favor the frog does for her. The princess forgets her promise though and runs off with out the frog. The frog follows and the King tells the princess that she must follow through in her promise. Well this makes the princess angry and she gets tired of the frog and his attitude and the princess picks up the frog and throws him across the room. When the frog hits the wall he turns into a handsome prince. Defiantly not the story I remember hearing as a child. But very interesting as to how the story changed from the time it was written down by the Grimm Brothers to today.

This book is a hard cover book with 632 pages and has 211 stories. Most which you will recognize such as The Frog Prince, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. It's a must have for anyone who collects classic stories. What more classic can you get then the Brothers Grimm.
