This book was given to us by a friend, who'd had it recommended to her. I had heard of the book, but didn't think to pick it up. I really recommend that you do! The book is written by Dr Harvey Karp. It is full of research about the things that newborns need to feel secure and to stop fussing constantly. There are, what he calls, the 5 S'. The combination of swaddling, sucking, shushing, swinging, and being on their side sets off something in their mind that will immediately calm a newborn baby. Dr. Harvey maintains that sometimes one or two of these methods will work for your baby, but some especially fussy babies need this things in a certain order, for a certain amount of time. We are lucky enough that our baby can usually be calmed, and is not colicky. For those with colicky babies, this book is for you! In fact, this book is for everyone who wants to understand the basic biology of their newborn baby.
