My husband had this HP ScanJet 3400 C scanner when we got together. We upgraded to an all-in-one a while back. I don't have this scanner installed right now, but I wish I did.
The HP ScanJet 3400C is a flatbed color scanner. With this model you can scan images or documents to your computer or directly to your email, printer or fax. This unit has buttons right on the scanner to let you quick pick what you want to do with your scan.
This scanner has 36-bit color and 600-dpi optical resolution, 600 x 1200-dpi hardware resolution, and 9600-dpi enhanced resolution. I know these numbers aren't as good as some newer all-in-one scanners. But, to be truthful, I can't see a difference between scans I've done with the "better" scanner I have installed now.
The best thing about the HP ScanJet 3400C is the fact this is a flatbed scanner with a top that hinges completely up and back out of the way. Recently I had to scan music from a book for my daughter. I was cursing my fancy all-in-one because the lid stopped short of where I needed to get a good scan. Had I used the HP ScanJet there wouldn't have been an issue.
I think this scanner would make an awesome scanner for crafters needing to scan patterns from books or magazines. I think I'll be re-installing my HP ScanJet 3400C myself for that purpose.
