The Lion King is a musical playing on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City. It is based on the classic animated Disney film, and is brought to life on stage with inovative masks and costumes.
The Lion King is one of my favorite movies, but I don't like the stage version quite as much as the movie. I think it is a little bit too long, at around two and a half hours in length. It is still exciting to see the songs and scenes that I loved from the movie on stage. There are also some new songs that are very good. The show has an African feel to it, and a lot of the songs have interesting African rhythms.
The costumes are the most interesting aspect of this production. They are masks, puppets and other unique costume pieces that transform the actors into animals and even blades of grass. It is a very creative way to bring the characters to life.
While I do still prefer the movie, The Lion King on Broadway is excellent and is an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
