My daughter knew I really wanted a pair of Ugg boots but they were just not in my budget. Last Christmas, she got me the next best thing and that was a pair of Bearpaw boots .
Bearpaws are basically the poor man's Uggs. They come in different styles and colors and they are made of suede and lined with sheepskin just like Uggs are.
The pair she gave me is from the classic collection and are called the Bearpaw Dream. They are a 10" boot which comes to the middle of my calf and are a sand color. The have a sheepskin lining that keeps your feet both warm and cool at the same time and the lining wicks away any moister so your feet don't get all sweaty if you are not wearing socks. They have a rubber sole with treads and a 1" heel. They have a little tag on the top of the boot that says Bearpaw and a paw print on the back of the heel.
Like Uggs, most people would not consider these to be the prettiest shoes on the market but that is all part of their appeal. They are however both comfortable and warm. They can be worn with jeans, skirts or even shorts if you are feeling daring. I wear them both with and without socks depending on what I am wearing or how cold it is. When you first put them on, it does feel like you are wearing Frankenstein boots but you do get used to the feel quickly.
I have had these for almost a year now and I wore them throughout the Winter and Spring last year. They have been out in the rain and a little snow too and still look great. There is very little wear to the sole and the only place I have noticed any wear is a little bit of matting of the sheepskin inside the boot but it does not effect the comfort or the wear.
If you have always wanted a pair of Uggs but don't want to pay the Uggs price, you may want to give Bearpaws a try.
Update On Jan 20, 2010: I got a pair of real Uggs for Christmas and I must say, I was not impressed with them so I had my husband return them and I shopped around for a pair of boots to replace them. This pair of Bearpaws was still in excellent condition so I wanted soemthing that looked different and matched a new jacket I got. After searching every shoe store both in person and online and every type of boot out there at every price, I ended up getting another pair of bearpaws.
