I've stayed at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas before. Maybe it was about 4 or 5 years ago. The location is perfect. Almost at the upper end of the Las Vegas Blvd strip, with a monorail and walkway which takes you back and forth to the Excalibur and Mandalay Bay.
The Luxor was nice. I liked the decor, I liked the big windows -- every room in the pyramid has a huge slanted window. It's actually the glass side of the pyramid. So, every room has great sunlight and something interesting to look out at. And I enjoyed the decor of the rooms with the heiroglyphics on the bed headboard and the furniture. I also liked the way the casino and hotel lobby was decorated. I liked pretending I was in Egypt....winning money in slot machines. My favorite part of staying at the Luxor was the Inclinator.....an elevator that doesn't run straight up and down. Because of the incline of the pyramid, the Inclinator runs at a slanted angle. And I can feel it at every start and stop. I always thought that was fun. Kind of like a mild carnival ride. An extra bonus!
So, when I received an email with a coupon for $69.99 a night (weeknights) and a bonus of stay-three-nights-get-one-free, I was excited. Let's go to Las Vegas and stay at the Luxor, I told my husband, And three weeks later, off we went.
Only it wasn't as much fun this time. The Luxor glamour has faded. The upholstered chair in our room had worn spots. The faucet button to redirect the shower spray was stuck. But worst of all, the mattresses were lumpy and bumpy and impossible to sleep on. We had two queen beds, and they both had awful mattresses. We tossed and turned and every morning we woke up with stiff backs and were popping Aleves.
So much for the Luxor. I won't be returning until I have received a color flyer depicting all the renovations, including new mattresses. Too bad. It used to be so nice there.
