It was a bit embarrassing when I had asked for The Muppet Christmas Carol movie at my local library and was told to go look in the Children's section. Still, I proceeded to get the DVD. I love the Muppet Show, and I am a big fan or Michael Caine who stars in this movie together with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the gang. A Christmas Carol is also one of my favorite stories, so when I'd found out that there is a Muppet version of it, I had to see it.
The movie is very creative and funny, and believe it or not, it does a great job telling the story of Scrooge. There are only a few human actors who play alongside the muppets. Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat narrate the story, popping in and out of it at their convenience and delivering plenty of laughs. Kermit the Frog plays Bob Cratchit, and Miss Piggy his wife; Fozzie the Bear appears as Mr. Fozziwig.
I am very impressed with Michael Caine in this movie. He creates one of the best Scrooges I've seen. I did not expect such a deep, intense performance in what is really just a comedy puppet musical, but Michael Caine took his part very seriously.
I guess I understand why they keep this gem in the Children's part of the library, it would make a great introduction to A Christmas Carol for kids. However, I think it has a lot to offer to adults as well.
