As a computer fanatic and an ocasional wannabe artist I often use photoshop during my daily activities. A photo needs a bit of clean-up before I post it on facebook or a friend wants a poster for his student organization, I can always fire up photoshop and do both in under 15 minutes. As such I was probably one of the first to download the new CS4 and try it out. However, the price tag was a big auch and looking over the new features I wonder if this was my wisest investment yet.
First of all I must say that the new CS looks much better and is a lot more intutitve. The workspace is much better organized and I love the position of the new adjustement layers. Also for the first time since photoshop 7 I felt really comfortable using the photo adjustement settings, brightening a picture looks much better than the white wash of CS3. Also, according to the list of new features 3D objects should be easier to use (I never felt the need to import a 3D object in photoshop but CS4 let's you do it much better)
Unfortunately, all of this comes at a price (and I'm not reffering to the pricetag) photoshop CS4 eats resources like nobody's business and on my laptop (2.0ghz, 2gb RAM) I had several moments when the program ran very slow. Also at times the brush just dragged begind the mouse cursor in an unnatural and frustrating way. In other words, make sure to have a powerful machine if you want to run this baby.
Overall, I would say that the improvements are worth it if you use photoshop very often or if you need to edit 3D objects. Otherwise you might want to wait until it goes on sale.
