I must say that Kate Dicamillo is one of the best authors out there for young people around the ages of nine through thirteen. After having read her book Because of Winn Dixie and liking it. I was looking forward to her next book The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread.

The Tale of Despereaux is about Despereaux a young mouse born with his eyes open which makes his mother fear that he is doomed to die instead he lives in a castle with a young princess who he loves and would do anything she asked of him. Its not long before Despereaux gets into all kinds of trouble around the castle and dungeon.

This is a great book that young people can read or have read to them. It actually weaves about 4 storylines to gather into one fun story. This book has become a favorite so much so they have recently made a movie out of it.

Kate Dicamillo won a Newberry Honor for her first book Because of Winn Dixie and it does not surprise me that she won the prestigious Newberry Award for this one.
