I stayed at this hotel with my father during our summer road trip. We had read about it in a magazine and heard that it was pretty cool. So...we drove all the way to Monument Valley to stay in it (and look at said monuments). I'm glad we did. It was nice. The View just opened up in 2009 and it is the only hotel in the Monument Valley Tribal Park . Monument Valley is on Navajo land and the View Hotel is run by Navajos.
The hotel doesn't look like much from the road, at first. It looks like 1960's rectangle architecture, which I personally hate, but at least it's made from adobe (or looks like it is anyway) and blends in with the landscape. The inside of the hotel was much better. There is artwork everywhere and the central fireplace is beautiful. The rooms are nice, and each one has a view of the valley because they are all on one side. I thought that was an awesome idea. The dining area had a great view too and the food was superb.
The main drawback was that there isn't much to do around the hotel. You can go on a drive through to see the rock monuments up close, but not much else. I think there was a pool but I'm not a pool person, so I didn't even bother to check. There were hiking trails, and if it had been cooler I might have hiked them.
Overall, I had a great time at this place. The hotel was lovely, the views were excellent, and the food was great. If you plan to visit, remember to bring your own alcohol with you as they do not sell it in the reservation, and check out the jewelry and art stands on the side of the roads. My father and I met some cool people at those places.
