I am a very big fan of Anne Rice. Her books really depicted the renaissance times. People are more glamorous and fashionable back then.
I do not know whether to pity Armand or to hate him basing on the events that transpired in his life as human and as vampire. I have butterflies in my stomach at the same time serpents whilst reading this book. I am unsure whether I want to accept the fact that a young boy was being used by men, gender wise. No offense to the LGBT Community, I have always been comfortable with them and they are my friends. This book is just very elaborate and it gives me goosebumps up to my spine. Anyhow, I guess this is widely acceptable during that time, it is only during this time that somehow such act is perceived as immoral.
It took me a long time to finish the book not because I do not like it but because I internalized the story so much like I was brought to the actual setting and I am afraid I won't be able to stop reading it and will grow hungry for more. As well as I might actually believe that it was true.
For me, this is how effective Anne Rice is. She will really bring you to a chilling place with no guarantees of ever coming back.
