From the time he was 2 and first started watching videos on TV, my son was addicted to Thomas the Tank Engine. He watched the videos over and over and every time we went to the store, he wanted a new train. When he was almost 5 we heard about an event that was coming to Chattanooga, Tennessee called A Day Out With Thomas. This is a train based event that travel around the country where actual working railroad cars are dressed up to look like the characters from the show. There is even one that looks just like Thomas that the kids can actually take a train ride on.

As part of the event there are tents set up with different activities inside as well as some that are gift shops. We told my son he could pick one special train or toy that he wanted while we were there and we would let him buy it. The thing he picked was the Thomas the Tank Conductors Cap.

The cap is a blue and white striped cap and is made of a heavy cotton material. It looks a little like a baseball cap but has more material in the head part so it flops down some. It is a child size, one size fits all and has an elastic strap in the back so it has a pretty good stretch to it. It stretches so much in fact that I can actually fit it on my head. The front of the cap has the name Thomas embroidered on it as well as a picture of Thomas himself. On each side of the cap there is an embroidered railroad crossing symbol.

My son loved this cap and wore it every time he played with his trains from that day on. With all the wear, it still looks almost brand new. While looking up trains on Ebay, I did see a few people that have sold this cap over the years so I am sure it is available in other places other than the event. If you have a Thomas fan in your house, you may want to look for one of these caps too.

Update On Feb 27, 2010: While this hat no longer fits my son, I found it in the closet the other day and it brought back fond memories of our trip to see a Day out with Thomas the Tank Engine and friends. I'm going to save it and maybe I can pass it on to a grandson some day.
