An immersion blender is a handy tool to have around when you want to puree soup, mix batters, make beverages, etc. It is easier to clean than a blender or food processor, and you can use it right in the pan on the stove.
The Toastmaster 1738 is lightweight and is easy to operate with one hand. The whole unit is about 12.5 inches in length, it will reach to the bottom of a pan containing food or liquid to a depth of about 7 inches.
This particular model is a single piece unit. Some models are now available which are multiple speeds and have detachable blending shafts which allow it to be put in the dishwasher. This unit is cleaned by running it in a glass of soapy water and then rinsing it under the faucet.
One drawback of this unit versus those with stainless steel blender assemblies, is that the white plastic can become stained (particularly if you use it to mix curry sauces - my is slightly yellow from turmeric).
