True Blood is an HBO series on cable television that features Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley and Alexander Skarsgard. This show was created by Alan Ball. Mr. Ball also created the hit shows 6 Feet Under, Grace Under Fire, and Cybil. True Blood is written and directed by various people. The series is based on Charlaine Harris’s novels.
True Blood, which is set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, follows the story of a time when vampires live among humans. The vampires have promised to feast only on a manufactured substance called True Blood. However, vampires are not the only creatures in Bon Temps. Werewolves, shape shifters, and other creatures of the night are a part of the story.
The main character is a young woman name Sookie Stackhouse. Sookie can hear other people’s thoughts, but that’s not the only unusual thing about her. Sookie is in love with one of the town’s vampires. Sookie is always in danger and her boyfriend, Bill, has to come to her rescue.
WARNING: This is a cable show and as such, features nudity, sexual scenes and gore.
With this warning, I must say, this is a very popular series and is in its third season. Even the books that the series is based on are bestsellers. True Blood, in my opinion, is one of the better shows on television. It features a cast of odd characters. I will admit the gore is a little over the top sometimes and the nudity/sexual scenes seem a little gratuitous on occasion, but this is an HBO cable show and I guess the creator does this for the ratings. However, this show is a lot of fun and is action packed. Every episode ends in a way that leaves you wanting to see the next episode.
I also like the music used in the show. The music for the show is wonderful and varies in range from old to new in style. In this show you can hear such artists as Bob Dylan, Slim Harpo, Lucinda Williams and many more artists, including Jace Everett who does the opening song, "Bad Things".
If you’re an adult and like the new vampire trend that's featured in books and on television, you will probably love True Blood.
True Blood, season one and two can be purchased on DVD from Amazon, but you will want to shop around for the best prices. I believe season one and two can be purchased together as a set. Amazon will also let you view each episode for $2.09 from Amazon On Demand. The sound track can also be purchased from Amazon.
Some of the extras found on the DVDs include interviews with the cast, a mock documentary on vampires, vampire commercials, and some episodes offer character information or commentaries.
