Turning Stone Resort is a luxury oasis located on land owned by the Oneida Nation in Vernon, NY and is a destination that is perfect for anyone seeking out a short weekend getaway or longer. The level of service that is evident from the moment you drive up to the main entrance of the Resort continues as you check in and are escorted to your room by friendly, knowledgeable Resort staff who not only do not allow you to carry your own luggage, they also ensure that it is put neatly away in your room once you are there.
I treated a dear Sister in law to a weekend at this Resort and our main purpose for choosing it was to take in some badly needed R&R for her. Our two daughters, aged 16 and 17 at the time accompanied us mainly so they could enjoy some shopping at a few other destinations along the way. The girls discovered a hallway that they dubbed the 'Echo Room' and infact in may be called that because it echoed as soon as you stepped into the center of it.
The Resort is divided into a number of complexes all offering breath taking views of the well kept grounds and surrounding landscape. The Hotel is where we stayed, on the 3rd floor over looking the main entry area to the Resort. Other accomodations are The Lodge, The Tower, The Inn and The Villages RV Park. The room we stayed in was roomy with King sized beds, a sitting area, large bath with crisp white Spa style towels and large, lush Bath Robes. Our daughters where quick to hook up their laptops to the Roadrunner internet service that was included.
Dinner reservations where taken care of by the Front Desk and the decision as to where to eat was a tough one. Ten different dining establishments offer a varied selection but we chose the Peach Blossom, an authentic Asian Restaurant. The ambiance, service and food were all spectacular. Our meal was just over $70.00.
For the Golf enthusiasts a game or several on Champion Greens is a must. Golf Pros are available in case you are a little rusty or just want to get a few pointers to improve your swing.
Recreational activities range from a large Bingo hall to Poker tables, Slot machines and even Floor shows that offers some great entertainment and concert events. You want to be certain that you purchase any tickets to concerts and such before you leave home to ensure the events aren't sold out when you get there.
A visit to the luxurious Spa would have been nice, but as we wanted to take in other things we decided that perhaps we'd leave that as just one of a dozen reasons to return.
The one area that we weren't all that excited about was the Casino Slots. We had heard that these were tight and didn't pay out too often and coming from a city were Slot Machines are very popular and there is always a lot of 'cha-ching' opportunities, the Turning Stone slots were dull in comparison. The silence that drifted around the gaming area despite almost all the slot machines in use was only broken by the few winners surrounding the poker or Black jack tables. We left the casino a little disappointed as we'd expected there to be a bit more excitement than what there ended up being.
Overall though, I'd recommend a visit to this Resort. A great place to just get away for a bit and enjoy life in pampered style. We're looking forward to a return trip the end of this month, a gift from our children. Can't wait!
