The last time I went to The Book Loft in Columbus, Ohio i found a copy of Under the Tuscan sun by Frances Mayes for a great price of less than $7. I enjoyed the movie, so I was very interested in reading the book.
As with most books that are made into movies, the book is even better than the movie. Of course there are differences, but the concept was quite similar. In the book the main character, Frances has a male significant other as well as an adult daughter. She buys Bramasole as a summer home and still resides in the US primarily.
I loved this book, it was a great and inspiring read. The story flows well and is very entertaining. I have loaned out my copy so many times that is a little worn and I think I will have to buy another copy for my personal library.
I love reading about the experience of buying a home in another country, all of the work that went into the home, and how the couple dealt with the locals. The book was not only fascinating, but also intelligently written and unique. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Italy, or enjoyed the movie version of Under the Tuscan Sun.
