I didn['t expect to like this movie. I received it as a gift and expected to hate it. after all, it is a live-action version of my favorite cartoon of all time. After seeing the wonderous, and by that I mean awful, things they did this year with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the sort of awful Scooby Doo live action, I didn't see good things ahead for this movie.
Thankfully, I was dead wrong. I love Jason Lee and he is wonderful as the voice of Shoeshine/Underdog. I am not a huge Jim Belushi fan, but he didn't distract from the movie. Polly Pureheart and all the gang were there and the movie was old-fashioned family fun. The bad guys were evil without being overly violent or sexist or any of the crap that fills the airwaves. Instead, the only love story we had was of the Lois Lane/Superman variety and between two dogs; one date in the moonlight.
I would feel comfortable taking a child of any age to this movie, which is something I haven't felt in a long time...evenw ith a lot of movies made for kids. this movie hits the nostalgia factor but also updates with a fun modern soundtrack. I was pleasantly surprised.
