We were in need of a new phone for our family room upstairs and laundry room downstairs. The one's we had were ancient and the sound quality was not the best anymore. We looked around for a multi unit cordless set but found that most of the hand units were too small and felt like I had a cell phone in my hand. We wanted something more solid and could tuck in between our ear and shoulder when using our hands for something else.
On a trip to Home Depot for kitchen lights I happened to turn around and right in front of me was a shelf full of clearance items. One of the many items on clearance was a cordless phone from Uniden. The packages were all sealed and new so we weren't sure why in the world they would be marked down to $7.20 each! For that price we could buy 5 of them and still only spend half of a multi unit set we had thought about purchasing. We ended up buying two and now wish we had bought the others!!
Our Uniden cordless phone is 5.8GHz and came with a nice compact base that measures approximately 6" wide, 5" long and the back end is about 4 inches high. Set up was fast and uncomplicated with the easy to read instructions included.
**The phone came with a Uniden rechargeable battery pack and the base plugged into the wall with an AC adapter. There is a charge in use LEd light to let you know your phone is charging. You should let your phone charge 15-20 hours with a new battery. The only thing left to do is to connect the telephone cord to your phone jack.
**Features of our Uniden phone are:
Hearing Aid compatible, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Menu Display can be set to English, Spanish or French, Ringer volume control is on the handset or base, Handset speakerphone, Last number redial, Earpiece volume, Page/Find Handset (comes in really handy), Mute Ringer, Backlit keypad, Headset jack, 30 number caller ID memory, 10 number speed dial memory, Chain dialing, the base unit is desk or wall mountable. A belt clip is also included if you want to do something outside and take your phone with you.
**Features of the Answering System are:
Up to 13 minutes of recording time (you can set the recording time per incoming call from 1 to 4 minutes), Personal or Pre-recorded outgoing messages, Trilingual phone prompts, Handset access to the answering system, Time and Day Announcement, Call screening, Conversation recording up to 10 minutes (kind of the reverse of when someone tells you your conversation may be recorded like when you call a utility company), Voice memo and Remote message retrieval.
The instructions are easy to follow for all of the functions available. The clarity of the phone is excellent and such an improvement over our old phones. We have the unit in the family room set to take any incoming messages and the other phone has that function turned off since we only use that phone if we are downstairs doing laundry or working out on the treadmill. We've taken the phone across the street to get the mail and to the backyard when out on the patio with no interference with the volume or clarity of the phone.
The 13 minute recording time might not seem very long but the majority of our family and friends know that if we do not pick up by the third ring to call us on our cell phones. I think we got the deal of the century only paying $7.20 for this cordless phone/answering system so check out your local Home Depot if you need a fabulous phone at a bargain clearance price!!
