I bought this a while back when my old gateway laptop's DVD drive stopped working. Now the price of the external drive is more than what I paid for it. It has always never failed me. it does what it is supposed to. It can read and write DVDs and CDS.
You need two usb slots on your computer to get this to work. Now it does not take away from the two slots. You will still have one available after you plug in the usb cord. On one of the plugs, you can plug in a usb device on top of it. The cord plugs into the back of the DVD drive.
I still use that drive once in a while and it works perfectly. It does comes with software that you need to write disks to. I believe that its nero that came with it and it works perfectly. There is a button you press on the front of the drive that will open. I like the drive because when you put the disk in, it attaches to the drive like it should be compared to what it is like to have a desktop version of the drive here it really is no attachment mechanism to the drive. You just put it on the tray and that is that. This one, has a mechanism which in my eyes makes it safer in the long run.
