Sometimes, you don't have to go far from home for a great vacation. The Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. My husband and I go for great weekend getaways. I am not a golfer, but I do enjoy the spa. So my husband needs something to do while I am getting a massage.

The Vinoy Club offers golf for visitors to the resort. My husband says the golf is good, though the course is a little short. He says golfers need to be prepared for water everywhere since it is located along the bay. The course was designed originally by Donald Ross and redesigned by Ron Garl. The course is not directly at the resort but you can get a transfer to it.

For those of us who don't golf, there are many other things to do. I generally spend my day at the Vinoy Day Spa and Salon. It is located right at the resort. Just walking up to the spa, I get relaxed. The smell of the aromatherapy filters out of the spa to lure customers in. This is also a great place for the golfers to go after a hard day on the links. The massage therapists are amazing.

If exercise is the point of your vacation, the Vinoy has a fitness center with some great workout equipment. Well, it looked great as I walked by wondering why anyone would workout while on vacation.

Another great way to spend your time at the resort is at the pool. This place is all about service. While you relax by the pool, attendants walk by offering frozen washcloths to cool you off. My husband and I usually go here after he's done golfing. We get food by the pool and enjoy some great fruity rum drinks.

You definitely won't starve while at the Vinoy. The food is top notch. You can have casual Caribbean fare at Alfresco's, high quality gourmet meals at Marchands, or some amazing steak at Fred's. If they have the Ch√Ęteau Briand special, I highly recommend spending the money on it. You won't be disappointed. Even when we aren't staying at the Vinoy, we like to go for the Sunday brunches at Marchand's.

St. Petersburg, where the Vinoy is located, offers many other great things to see and places to golf. You can take a quick trip over to the Pier and watch the sunset. Take in some golf at the city course, Mangrove Bay. My husband golfs there a lot because it fits his price range.

The Vinoy can be pretty pricey, but I think it is a wonderful getaway and so worth the money.
