When my husband purchased his new motorcycle, we needed to get new full face Vega Altura helmets also. This was my requirement, not his. He had an older helmet in good condition but it did not match the bike nor could we find a helmet for me that matched it. I also felt the age of his old helmet could not possibly meet DOT standard.
We examined the helmets displayed at the Cycle Rider and found the Vega Altura to be a good all around motorsport helmet. It is full-faced so it goes around your head to the base of your skull and around your chin with a face shield.
The fit is comfortable all over your head. I have not experienced any pressure points or hot spots where the helmet leaves marks. Yet, it fits tight as it should and does not wiggle side to side or front to back.
The chinstrap is comfortable also. It holds tight with a quick release snap and is fully adjustable.
There are two dislikes we both have about the Vega Altura. The vent system is not as good as it could be and the helmet is generally noisy.
On the bright side, the shield is "optically correct" to give you good clear sight. Vega sells universal shields that fit the Vega Altura helmet if you prefer a tinted or mirrored shield. The shield does not have fogging issues, which is something I would have expected.
The helmet comes with a storage bag to keep it dust and scratch free when not in use.
The liner is removable for cleaning.
These helmets were a great deal for us. We will be able to use them for all our motorsport activities from ATV riding to dirt biking.
