Going to a saloon just to get a simple hair cut is getting more expensive by the day. Washing the hair is $10, a hair cut is another $20, styling is anywhere from $5 to $20... why go through spending $30 or $40 per hair cut when you can do it yourself at home? Vidal Sassoon has a wonderful handy dandy ten piece professional hair cutting kit that you can get at Wal-Mart for only $20. The kit gives you a professional magnetic motor clipper, four comb attachments, storage pouch (but for some reason my box never got one), styling comb (no comb either), blade guard, blade oil, cleaning brush, and an instructional guide that shows you how to care for your haircutting kit as well as showing you different hair styles and how to do them.
The instructional guide gives you a twelve step cutting guide on how to cut hair short, cut hair in a crew cut and also a twelve step process on how to trim hair. Now, I only use the trimming section because I have long hair and so does my boyfriend, but just because you don't want to have short hair is no reason not to get this kit. The trimming guide is great for showing you how to properly get rid of those annoying side burns or trimming the under parts of the hair and neck that like to become home to all those pesky and itchy stray hairs.
The professional motor clipper is not light, it is a tad heavy and only has an on and off switch, there is no set for speed. Which depending on what you are trimming can be a bad thing. The blade is very easy to clean and the cover is easy to put on and take off. The blade itself is made up on stainless steel and is corrosion resistant to remain sharp. And it is really really sharp.
The blade oil is a let down. They give you this little bottle, and its not even half full. Another let down is, when you are cutting hair at home you want to be as professional as you can and a lot of times an old pair of cutting scissors to even the hair out or an old comb sometimes doesn't cut it. So, unfortunately you are stuck buying professional hair cutting scissors and combs too. Which is cheap at Wal-Mart, but that is not the point.
When you are trimming the hair on the back of your neck or someone else's, even though the blades are really sharp, you have to get dangerously close to your neck or the other person's neck to get a close and accurate cut. At some points it seems like the blades are not long enough. So be very careful!
Depending on how you are planning to use the kit, it is a fairly good product, but should be used with care and definitely under parental supervision. There is also a five year warranty option through Vidal Sassoon, this warranty is highly recommended.
