We 'inherited' this old Coors beer sign from my husband's uncle. He had a General Store a long time ago, and apparently the sign was part of the advertisement for Coors beer. When he closed the store he chucked much of the inventory in an old barn on his property.

I'm not sure what the exact circumstances were when he gave us the sign. It wouldn't have been anything I wanted! Nonetheless, we ended up with it! Since we have a 'game room' over our garage, it was the only room I would even consider hanging the sign in. One area in the room has a pin ball machine, and occasionally, we play electronic darts. So when I light up the Coors sign, it DOES kind of add to the mood a little, especially at night. I suppose I liken it to having a "bar" atmosphere. ( I know, I know... it's a little weird!)

I don't know much about the sign, other than what it says on the back sticker. First of all, it says it's "Property of the Coors Corporation", so I might be in trouble! The date on the sticker says 1981. The sign has "Coors" in script, printed on a smoky mirror. Under that, there's a picture of a waterfall, and on either side of that are what look like some sort of freakish lions! Finally, at the bottom, it says "Brewed with pure Rocky Mountain Spring Water". (Can anyone tell me what the freaky lions have to do with all this?) Anyway, the sign lights up, and if it weren't for the fact that this is a beer sign it might be pretty! Well, the WHOLE sign doesn't light... just the waterfall, and outlines of other parts of it. It's surrounded with a wooden frame, stained to look like oak. When our guests see the sign, they think it's cool, but I think it's just for the nostalgia.

The bottom line is, I was given this Coors advertising sign and don't want to hurt the uncle's feelings, so I try to utilize it in my game room. In my search for some background on it, I've run across a couple of web sites that are selling the sign from between 89.00 to 149.00. I guess that's a good thing if I choose to sell it. Hmmm... I'll think about that...
