"Walking in Circles Before Lying Down: A Novel", by Merrill Markoe is a very funny and entertaining "make believe" look into the mind of dogs. I found myself laughing out loud and smiling as I read through this book, which is something I love to do while I read.
This book is about a young woman named Dawn and all of the crazy, and also heart breaking things that happen to her in her life. She thinks she has finally lost it when he second dog, Chuck, begins talking to her. Whether it is her self-conscious telling her all the things she knows deep down inside or Chuck really talking to her for real, she begins to not care either way. Chuck helps her realize that her boyfriend is a shmuck, she needs to stand up to her mother, and that the really nice guy that always wants to help her is really that, a nice guy; and to take a chance on him.
Reading this book made me realize how much I wish my own dog would talk to me. I'd get to know what she was thinking, and what she really thought of the world her and I live in. This is a great book that gives you an idea of what your dog really thinks about your boyfriend or girlfriend, that crazy neighbor next store, or the food you feed him. But more than just the dog talk this book also lets you look into the life of a young woman who's life is a lot like a lot of women's out there. "Walking in Circles Before Lying Down, " is a great chick lit novel that not only chicks, but guys will love as well. I highly recommend this book and I am definitely going to check out other books by this same author in hopes that they are just as good.
