First and foremost...I have refused to to give in to the Uggs trend since I first saw them on Oprah years ago. However, when the company I work for gave me all of two footwear options (flip flops or Ugg-like boots) during the winter season, I caved for the sake of saving my toes from frostbite (I live in MN).
Not wanting to spend $100+ on a pair of Uggs, I opted for the lesser-known, yet nearly identical Bearpaw "Dream" boots which I managed to snag during a sale for around $40. These are completely lined with a soft, wool-like material that keeps my feet SUPER warm and the overall quality has been quite impressive. My only complaint is that these don't come in half-sizes, and with repeated wear, the lining flattens out making the shoes fit like a much arger size.
Overall, these are a great alternative to pricey Uggs, and are a notable option considering that this is a trend that may very well be considered a fashion crime in a matter of years.
