I love to play guitar and sing, and over the years I've played several different brands of guitars until I found the perfect guitar for me... The George Washburn Co. has been in business since 1876, (or at least thats what it says on the label inside mine), so I guess it just makes sence that by now they pretty much know what they are doing... I first looked at my D 10CE when it was new in 1984 at the local music store, (Jimmy Roger's House of Music), and fell in love with it the first time I played it... It felt so natural and comfortable in my hands that I knew I just had to have this instrument ! Then I saw the price and realized there was no way I could afford the $795.00 they were asking... I had a wife and 3 boys with one on the way, and was working as a short order cook and resteraunt manager... There was no way I could even dream of fitting it into my budget, no matter how much I wanted it...

By 1996, I had changed jobs and started making decent money remodeling homes in Buckhead ( the expensive side of town in Atlanta), and I was finally able to afford something better than the old used $100.00 guitars I had been playing all my life... So me and a friend of mine decided to make a road trip and check out Jimmy Roger's House of Music, but when we got there, his business had closed, so we asked around and found out that he had moved to Seneca S. C. ... When we finally got there, we had one thing on our minds... Washburn Guitars !!!

We were looking at all the various guitars, but noticed that he only had one Washburn, and my friend grabbed it up and headed to the register... Which was fine with me because it wasn't the model I was looking for anyway... As he was paying for his guitar, I asked Jimmy, " You don't have any more Washburns in the back do you?" ... He thought for a few seconds and said, "I got one someone bought from me years ago and traded it in on a newer model... If you don't mind a used guitar..." He came out with a really cheap old beat up case and my expectations dropped just a little, but when he opened the tattered old case, there was the same guitar I had looked at so many years ago !!! A Washburn accoustic D 10CE electric !!!

I picked it up and checked to see it was in tune, then started playing and the room filled with the rich tones I fell in love with so long ago... The fret board was a little worn, and it needed a new set of strings...but the action on the fret board was so comfortable that I knew I wasn't leaving without it this time !!! When I asked, "How much?"... Jimmy just smiled a little and said, "For you... $300..." My friends jaw just about hit the floor, because he had just bought his Washburn for considerably more...

I play just about every day, and probably more than I should on the weekends... But everyone who hears it or plays it, falls in love with it !!! I care so much about it that I even bought a new hard shell case for it with my next paycheck... But thats a different story... I recommend Washburn guitars, ( new or used ) to anyone who is serious about the quality of their music... I guess its true what they say... "Good things (do) come to those who wait..."
